Autour de la Set-Theory
October 15-16, 2003
IRCAM, Paris

This is a conference introducing European theorists to American theory in the traditions of Allen Forte, David Lewin, and others, and to the music of Milton Babbitt.

The intention is also to engage in a critical (re)evaluation of these traditions, from both American and European perspectives. Invited participants include (in order of presentation) John Rahn, Jonathan Dunsby, Luigi Verdi, Moreno Andreatta and Stephan Schaub, Allen Forte, Xavier Hascher, Andrew Mead, Joseph Dubiel, Robert Morris, Marilyn Nonken, Andre Riotte, Paul Nauert, Jason Eckardt, Jean-Jacques Nattiez, Celestin Deliege, Guerino Mazzola, and Thomas Noll.

It is open to the public. There will be a number of round-tables and discussions open to participation by members of the audience. There will be simultaneous translation between French and English.

This is part of a larger event which also includes conferences on computer tools for musical analysis, on electroacoustic music, and on digital (web) publication of musical scores and musical analysis, arranged so that people can attend them all.
